Sigh. I'm not even sure why I'm so exhausted with it. Perhaps it's the "this is what you should do" attitude behind so much of it. I have certainly always been one to buck anyone's my way or the highway attitude. Currently though, a lot of it has to do with having read the bible cover to cover. Context makes things so much different than a verse here and there glance. A lot of things that are current waves of belief I 100% supported a year ago. Then this year I also finished reading the Bible cover to cover. And I realized many things, but one of which is some of these popular ideas are out of context. That doesn't mean that those ideas are bad- as long as they are recognized as a personal, God given passion. And not a mandate. There is this air of if you don't support XYZ you are sinning or not a good Christian. And given the slight lack of context some of these things have, that's a very dangerous attitude to have.

Rest 2015
I must confess I have become quite disenfranchised with current Christian movements as of late. I'm not sure where my break came. I just know it is uncomfortable. Arguing within the church has never been prudent or useful to me. I've mostly always felt that as long as we are ultimately gospel focused and Christ focused, the varied differences weren't important. I do still agree with that to most extents. It's just here lately when I scroll through my Facebook feed I want to chuck my phone across the room.
Sigh. I'm not even sure why I'm so exhausted with it. Perhaps it's the "this is what you should do" attitude behind so much of it. We are called to be like God the Son
In my last post, I poured out some frustration on the whole Christian judging phenomenon. If you have ever heard the word Christian, I am sure you've heard some sort of argument on this. Some people love to latch on the judge not passages. Some people love to latch on to the fact that we are called to preach out. Personally, I think anytime you are on an extreme of an opinion, you're probably wrong. However, as I've mulled over this issue- and really just the hurt it's caused in my own life- I'm seeing it coming down to an interpretation of the Trinity.
I sort of mentioned this briefly in the other post, but I just wanted to outline it in more detail. So if theology is not your thing, I apologize.
We are called to be CHRIST like. To be the body of Christ. To have the mind of Christ. To give our lives as servants as Christ.
We were never called or given permission to be God the Father like. To be God the Father's body. To have the mind of God. In fact, the Bible makes it pretty clear we won't have the mind of God for the secret things belong to Him. (Deut 29:29) and even Christ doesn't know the hour of his return- that belongs to the Father. God the Father is not the servant. He is the holy one who can only be reached when you are covered by righteousness. He is to be worshipped. And while I do in no way mean to take away from his amazing, abounding love, we are never called to be God the Father. Ever.
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit- while they are the same- have very distinct roles. Christians have only been called to help fill one of those roles. And that is the role of Christ.
* God the Father is the standard. He is and portrays complete holiness. We are not called to be the standard. We couldn't be the standard if we tried. We are models of grace because we are constantly needing our sins forgiven. God the Father is the Judge. We are not called to be the Judge of the world. We are not called to take on that role. When we take on the role of God the Father, we are almost putting ourselves in His place, which if you want to get nitty gritty is probably idolatry. We are assuming that our wisdom is enough to determine someone's spiritual state. Yet, we forget we are finite and have no idea what God is really doing in their heart or in their life. We have no idea if someone is too far from God, will never repent, or is on the cusp of repenting, or has repented.
* God the Holy Spirit convicts. We are not called to convict. We are shown a protocol to follow when confronting a brother or sister who is in sin. I'm not taking away from that. But we are told to do it after much prayer and with much love. And this is strictly for another Christian- not a non believer. You can't expect someone who is blind to see. It's not in their power. You have to lead them lovingly and hope for the best. But we humans are not able to force the blind to see. The Holy Spirit must call, convict, and convert. We are called to serve the lost in love. And the serving the lost in love- that's Christ- God the Son.
* God the Son was a servant. He came here to die for us while we were STILL sinning. That's what we are called to do. Serve to the point of death. Death of your reputation. Death of your material comfort. Death of friendships. Not for the sake of a cause against abortion or homosexuality or whatever issue. But for the sake of people who are lost. I read the Beautitudes this week. We are called to be poor in spirit and recognize our own depravity. If we don't wake up and realize we ARE the least of these. That we ARE morally depraved. That there is NOTHING good in us. That we ARE capable of every sin we decry, we can never be truly effective.
You can't love someone you think you are more moral than.
We must cry over our sin and the sin in others lives. Not in a way of "eww that's so gross! how could they do that!" but in a way where our heart breaks because as Jesus said 'they know not what they do'. We sacrifice everything for that. We serve and serve to try to call people back. Call them out. Call them into the light. We are able to be truly merciful when we understand who God the Father is- that He's holy and unattainable except through Christ. We are able to be merciful when we understand that were it not for Christ, we would be so far lost. We are called to serve and to serve in love. And we can do this when we recognize who we really are in Christ. Sinners saved by grace. There will be more coming on this topic. part 2 will look at who Christ was and what our lives should mirror

The Great Sacrifice
First off- I need to figure out what to do about google adding me into "screwed over because I've used 1g of storage" list. Any advice on that is appreciated. Boo! The above picture is one that happens to have been uploaded into my google plus account, but honestly. I have no idea how to work computers. So here is a random one from this spring.
Second- today I will just be honest and say I've struggled with a lack of peace. It's related to absolutely nothing- which is typically the case with me. I just struggle with anxiety sometimes, so I've been trying today to just remember to refocus on Christ. The amazing thing about today was that God was so faithful to allow my kids to just be pleasant albeit crazy because it's close to Christmas. It really was a good day, I just felt the old familiar anxious tension in my body. I read a couple blogs today that reminded me that this is not my home and that I am seeking peace in Christ alone. Which always helps.
Third- I finished 2 Timothy this weekend. Here are the verses that most stuck out to me:
2:9 But God's Word is Not Chained (I am called to live the gospel daily. I have no idea the eternal ramifications of what I say and do. That is both humbling/scary and exciting/humbling.)
2:14-16 Warn them against quarreling about words... Present yourself to God as one approved... Avoid godless chatter (makes me question some of the doctrine arguments that plaque the church, and makes me wonder about godless chatter and how much I waste my time with silly, mundane things that just don't advance the gospel or bring God glory...)
4:6 For I am being poured out like a drink offering...
4:17 But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and ALL the Gentiles might here it. (Oh praise the one who promises such great things. And that I get to experience the divine Presence in my life! Christianity is such a blessed amazing life)
I have had a lot of thoughts on Christian life since I guess I started 1 Thessalonians. I haven't really gone into them, because they seem so controversial almost. But I am going to go ahead with some things I've been thinking here tonight.
I wrote a blog post a couple months back while I was in Leviticus called Chasing the Fire. Leviticus was completely transformational for my life in the sense that saying things like "my life is a sacrifice for Christ" actually meant something. So many Christian colloquialisms easily become trite. Leviticus put some of those into a raw perspective. When Paul refers to himself as a drink offering, that is a Levitical reference. This was poured onto fire and consumed. It was raw and painful and involved death of something. Today we are freed from the law, but the sacrifice is still raw, painful, and involves death. It's just the death of us.
And in America, what are we really putting to death? How are we really being poured out? We live in the most blessed country in so many ways. We want for very little. Even our secular Christmas stations tout gospel references for the entire public while even the Christians spend exhorbitant amounts of money on gifts none of us need. Drink offering?
According to The Joshua Project there are close to 3 billion unreached people in the world. Unreached does not mean non Christians. That means they have never heard the name 'Jesus'. While we sit here and listen to What Child Is This on your Christmas station, they have never heard anything at all about it. Ever. All these beautiful people in the world. And they've never heard. This comes down to about 7-8k people groups. That's really not a lot. I mean in America where millions of Christians go to their snazzy megachurches while driving their BMWs and sipping their lattes, there are 8,000 people dying to hear. Surely if we megachurch attenders got together we could find enough people to go, right?
I understand that there is a need for Christians in places like America to fund missionaries. I do. But I have to ask myself, should there really be a shortage of people willing to pour themselves out raw unto death to share? 8,000 doesn't seem like it should be that hard to reach. Yet we aren't anywhere close.
Churches love to discuss what spiritual gifts really mean, and how to be a better father, and how does the church interact with politics. Those are all fine things. But are they prompting us to pour ourselves out as a drink offering for a world that's dying?
To be fair, I don't think you have to move to Iran to pour yourself out. But I do think all of us could look at our lives and question the excesses. All things are loss compared to the surpassing knowledge of Christ. And while I certainly believe that God is sovereign and can call people to all nations and purposes as He chooses, I have to say, there is definitely a need in the American church at large for true frantic-ness for getting the gospel to all these people. Or even just a frantic-ness for our own country, sometimes our own churches. There are lots of hurt, dying to know people that needa drink offering sacrificed for them.
Here is a really good blog about this topic as well.
I am also a huge huge fan of Voices of the Martyrs. They send out free publications. I can honestly say I wasn't mission minded prior to getting those. They have completely changed my perspective. And I just feel like God continues to redefine and refine my desires and my views on missions. But that's a post for another day :)
I don't know what this looks like in your life. I don't even know what it looks like in mine, except that I am growing ever more burdened for the people of the world, realizing that the Christian life is a lot more than my cute new boots and my cute new journal. I know that my life is meant to be poured out- in some way. The question is how does God want to pour me out for the gospel? I do know this, wherever the Lord directs me and whatever He asks me to do, I am willing to be sacrificed. And I reckon thats a good start.
How do you think God wants to use you to reach the world?

Love the Christian, Love the World
So for those of you that have read my last few posts, I've mentioned how I'm currently reading through the Bible. And if you follow me on instagram (thistleashd) you definitely know, since I post pictures every time I start a new book. It's pretty encouraging for myself to do that, sorry if they aren't interesting to you :) I'm loving reading through the Bible for about 84,000 reasons. I've learned so much. My current goal is to blog about whatever book I just finished- the different things that stuck out to me. Hopefully this will get me to actually blog more.
Colossians:
1:4- We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints... Being at this point in the Bible, I've read several of Paul's letters. Without fail he consistently admonishes, encourages, commends the churches for their love of all saints. That means their love to other Christians. Now I am in no way saying we are not supposed to love non Christians with what I'm about to say. However, how often are we really evaluating ourselves or trying to grow in our love of other Christians? Yet, that is solely what Paul stresses. Honestly, at this point, Paul has not stressed love of the poor at all. He stresses sharing the gospel, but not "loving" them in our post modern, tolerance based understanding of it. He stresses loving our church members. And really, with good reason. The church has a terrible reputation for not loving each other. In my own experience, I have cried many tears over feeling like I'm less accepted within churches simply because I don't come off as quite as conservative as other Christians. There is nothing more hurtful than having the body of Christ reject you because you don't fit their mold. We are so good at trying so hard to love the people outside of the church who are different, we forget that God has called a variety of people to be a part of his body. Or that the people like myself who appear more edgy and less conservative have a vital role to play within evangelism. There are a whole lot of people in this world I can reach better than Suzy Christian in her cardigan. And there are a whole lot of people that Suzy Christian can reach better than me. We are unified because of our faith. We need to love Christians for their faith- not how much they act like us.
4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversations be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone... I surrounded these verses with stars. If the 1:4 is what directs our love for other Christians, these verses direct our love for non Christians. How do we truly love the lost? We are wise in our actions. We make the most of the opportunity. I don't think that this means we have to be super legalistic and avoid certain things so we look holy. Rather, wherever you go and whatever you do, you should use that as an opportunity to share the gospel. Being a good friend is not sharing the gospel. The gospel is that we are lost, beyond our ability to save ourselves, and separated from God who is holy. God in his grace sent his Son to cover our sins with his death. We are given the opportunity to know God deeply and enter his presence and be freed from sin. So if I am at happy hour with the non Christian, my job is to allow my love and gratitude for Christ to flow freely as I talk. It really should be logical. My day is full of the grace of God. He sustains me during stress. He encourages me when I'm overwhelmed. He is so much a part of my day. How can I share my day with a friend and NoT share what the gospel has meant for me that day? How can I not acknowledge that it's the continual saving grace over my life that makes each day possible? My conversation should be seasoned with grace, because my life is seasoned with grace. I get asked all the time how I manage to do what I do as a single mom. The answer is the gospel. God's grace comes in to my life and gives me the strength to do what I could not do on my own. The salt is the acknowledging the gospel truth. Not shying away from the intensity that a Christian's life should be. Salt goes through food and enhances everything. Christ is in my life and enhances my everything. The gospel should be the Christian's life. In Christ, we live the day to day, we move from seemingly ordinary event to ordinary event, we ourselves are centered in Christ. If we are recognizing the way the gospel is our every second of every day, our interaction is all Christ, all gospel, all true love for the world.
What do you think? How do you feel you should interact with the Christian and the non Christian?

Chasing the Fire- Part 1
Jude and I through the looking glass at the Dallas World Aquarium
I am currently reading through Leviticus (just started), Psalms (will be here forever), and finished John today. Here's what's been really interesting to me- I can make so many "text to text connections" (teacher word) between all 3 texts each day. And it's kinda so fascinating- I sometimes sneak in an extra set of chapters. Do you know how crazy it is to think that the Bible is more of a page turner than my New York bestselling novel? I'm not the 'super Christian' type. I'm pretty average. And usually feel pretty steeped in sin. I say this only to say that anyone can study the Bible and really glean something out of it. Because it's not about being a super Christian- it's about the Holy Spirit. He does it, and all of us terrible sinners get to join him for the ride. #1000 gifts friends, 1000 gifts....
I've got to say Leviticus has been fascinating and convicting. My heart just doesn't have Jesus on the throne enough. For a long time my throne was occupied with Michael or someone else. God removed that idol threw open heart surgery. And lately I am noticing my idol is trendiness trendiness trendiness. This is driven by a desire to create and recreate. It's not bad necessarily. The problem is that it keeps me from having an eternal focus. And I wonder if it keeps me from hearing God's voice?
There are two things that have really stuck out to me:
an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the Lord...
This line appears approximately 14 times in 6 chapters. So given that it is mentioned nearly twice daily in my readings, I've been thinking about it. In Romans, Paul mentions that our bodies our living sacrifices. Heard that a million times, but reading through what a sacrifice actually involved is really giving me a fuller understanding. All these sacrifices were made by fire. Made by fire. Looking back, I can think of countless trials in my life. They have all made me the person I am, for better or worse. Mostly better, because God has certainly used those more than anything to purify my heart. Those times where the fire is raging around my life, are the times I am most likely beholding God's face and presence in my life. Blessed are the persecuted... And those are the times that my life is an aroma pleasing to the Lord. Now I am not saying that in the midst of the good times, I am no longer pleasing. But I will say this, if I am not willingly subjecting myself to the fire of doing more for others than myself or giving more than I spend on myself or being vocal about my faith as opposed to hiding it for popularity's sake, if I am running or hiding from the fire, I might have a problem. (See the idol on my throne which I am working through...) No sin is an easy fix, and this is certainly no different. I am really trying to pray through this and understand what God is saying fully, although I have some ideas.
Here's the other thing:
All the fat is the Lord's - 3:16
There is a good bit mentioned about the fat, although not to the extent of being made by fire. I am not sure what this means for today, but here are some things I've being playing around with. (This could be totally wrong, by the way.) Fat is used to insulate, comfort, protect, add flavor. It's extra, or as we say in Louisiana, lagniappe. Thinking in those terms, the fat of my life would be trends, new bands, changing my hair color, shoes, clothes, instagram, fashion blogs... They add flavor to my life. They are the little extras that I find interesting and fun. But they aren't needs. Those things belong to the Lord first. None of these things are bad. I am not saying I needed to be rocking an out of touch with reality look. In fact, I discourage that, because I think we are supposed to be in the world enough to be able to carry on a normal conversation with anyone of any background/belief/gender/race/sexual orientation/whatever. But those things should not be what makes me what I am. I am not of this world.
But how in the world do I find that balance? What does a trendy Christian who has surrendered her interests for the sake of Christ look like. These mainly hold me back in particular area, which I will talk about as God reveals more. It's kind of hidden in my heart for now. However, today, what can I do to surrender my love of the trends so that even my love of trends brings Christ glory?
............................................................................................................
I don't know all these answers yet, but here's what I am looking for: ways to chase the fire... Not the American dream, not my comforts, not myself- not when there is a world out there dying and unreached.
I have so much to say on this regarding what I've been reading in Psalms and John and Acts... but that will have to wait...
Please share your thoughts. I really want this blog to engage me and you in conversation. I love being challenged and growing from other ideas :)

Weekend Thoughts
This week- has been quite a week. I went to study the prairie with my kiddos. The good news is there were loads of Indian blankets and butterflies. It was beautiful. (I have loads of pics on facebook. Or you can follow me on instagram at thistleashd. Or you can follow me on twitter also at thistleashd) More good news- I managed to only get one chigger bite. The bad news one of my kids got dehydrated, which was beyond scary. All the more reason to thank your local firemen who come to rescue of little 8 year olds and freaked out teachers. Then, that evening I got some disturbing news which just made me further rethink ever dating again. Why are there so many sketchy guys in the world? Beyond me.
Tuesday- I realized my facebook account had yet again been hacked by craziest ex girlfriend of my ex husband. Does anyone have a good explanation for some girl who signs into my facebook account to randomly friend my ex's friends and send them friend requests on my behalf? I'd love to hear it. Weird is all I've come up with. I put my facebook on lockdown. And used an email that is federally offensive to hack. Boom shaquita! I spent some time with some good friends. Not much to complain about there. Except that in the end of my night a friend once again went off about his love for me. It's not as sweet or cute as you might imagine. It's mainly just frustrating. And so complicated I can't begin to understand or explain it. Which made me think I should start dating soon. Ha- jk. But it would make it easier for him to keep his thoughts in line I think.
Wednesday- I spent my time dealing with and working through all these emotions. The stress, the disappointment in people. It was raw and it was real and it was part of life. But you know what I love about when my emotions are the most raw- how much I crave God then. I know people like to complain about how we never crave God when it's good. I see their point. But I also love knowing that in the times of disappointment, God never disappoints. Amazing considering how often I disappoint.
Thursday- I spent time dealing with explaining things to my parents. Who I are always ready to give me another perspective on my life and the random issues it brings. Plus, I met a friend at Wine2 and then saw a local production of Fiddler on the Roof! Winning! (ps I'm sorry but I love using that word. Thank you Courtney from the Bachelor.)
Friday- Today was field day. Damani made a rap about it. He also made a rap about Mother's Day on Thursday. Someone please tell me where I will find another student who makes up raps for me on a regular basis?!?!?! Best year ever? Kind of. I finished my kids reading levels for the year. I only have 2 at risk. 3 progressing and 15 on or above level. Which is definitely higher than last year. Also, considering some of these came in reading at a K level, progress was definitely made! Praise God!
Quotes of the week:
* Momma, you a princess? (based off a dress I wore)
* Let me read you a famous book
And my favorite "I lub you momma"
Things I'm pondering:
* politics- why do I strongly disagree with every candidate? What is the real call of a Christian in a political world? How do you best take a stand for Christ while loving the world as you're called to? Why are so many Christians unable to take a stand where the guidelines are clear? Why do some Christians turn guidelines into battle grounds when love is also so clear?
* life- what do I really want out of it? What does God really want me to be doing? I'm really feeling like I'm getting to the place that I really want to move forward. I'm finding all my fears ebbing, which can only be an act of the Holy Spirit. And so the natural next question is where from here? This is more just exciting, because I know God has great things in store. I just don't know what to do next.
* motherhood- why is single motherhood so hard? I am really struggling to find the right balance between my role for Jude and my role for myself.
* the end of the school year- I will never get it all done. Good gosh.
* Ecclesiastes- what is the 'time' for my life right now? I think it's a time to try to find God's path, and time to seek peace, and a time to trust. As always, anxiety gets the best of me sometimes.
So all in all it's been a time for reflection this week. I think I'm realizing that I need to walk forward in faith without being afraid to leave some people or things behind. This is true is so many ways. It's a time for a new path though. Only God know where that will lead.
As always, if you read this, I covet your prayers- for my wisdom, for peace, for patience...

People who Inspire Me
I've mentioned it before, but I absolutely love the Voices of the Martyrs newletters/magazine that I get every month. Every month (or few- I'm actually bad about finishing things on time) when I sit down to read the stories, I am just amazed by God's power. I mean really. You can't not be encouraged by hearing how the Holy Spirit is working in the midst of people's lives. And these are people who are literally being persecuted in the 'traditional' sense. Physical, emotional torment persecution. And yet they cling so adamately to Christ. It's inspiring- the right kind of inspiring.
It's a really great organization to support. VOM features stories and interviews of actual people and then lists the ways they are using money donated to further the gospel.
Here are some quotes I loved from a recent issue
* China- "I am happy that you and others tried to arrange for my release (imprisoned) but in one way I am happy that you failed. You almost made a big mistake. If you had been successful, there would be no church in that prison today."
---- I mean did you catch that. A big mistake. Release from prison a big mistake. Now don't take this the wrong way, but in the church we make this huge deal out of all that Paul did for the early church. He definitely deserves the respect, and he is one of my favorite Christian heroes. I guess what amazes me, is that there are still 'Pauls' alive today. People who still live as if "to live is Christ, to die is gain". I'm not one of those people at all. I am the queen of keeping things PC when it comes to religion in the real world. Because I don't want to ruin relationships. But these people have such focus, and I admire them greatly. I want to be like that. Also how amazing is God's sovereignty. There is no situation too dismal that God does not bring blessing out of if we are faithful to keep our eyes on him. Even prison. I just love it. I love how God works so many intricate details of our lives for His glory and ultimately our good.
* Pakistan- "Our Christ sacrificed his life on the cross for our sins... Our Christ is alive."- Asia Bibi
--- A couple reasons that quote stuck out to me. For one thing, this lady was arrested, tortured, imprisoned, and given the death sentence for those 2 sentences. She is currently waiting for either a miraculous release from prison so she can return to her family. Or waiting to be executed. You can sign a petition at www.callformercy.com through VOM who is working with the Pakistani Embassy to allow Asia to be pardoned. (see why I love this- real issues, real action, real results)
--- The other reason this quote stuck out to me was her saying that 'Our Christ is Alive'. I got so convicted because I have to admit, I think I take for granted that Christ is Alive. Don't get me wrong, walking through the marriage I had, the divorce, the single parenthood, I have no doubt Christ is Alive. I literally have felt Him carry me through all of this. I know he's alive. But I don't think I've ever considered how marvelous that really is. How it really sets Christianity apart. Buddha is a mere statue. Vishnu is a statue. But Christ is alive. I'm still trying to just meditate on that -- just to wrap my mind around it so I don't take for granted that beautiful truth any longer. Christianity is so blessed, so amazingly different from all other religions. I just love how that was what mattered to Asia in the midst of a muslim world. I'm trying to experience more 'My Christ is Alive' moments this week. It's just so unfathomably great.
What's Christ teaching you this week? I'd love to hear and be encouraged by it!

Another lesson learned from 2nd grade
Guys, I just have to preface this post by saying that it is truly amazing to me how something goes on in my day to day life and God just steps in and teaches me something about his love, grace, everything. How he brings to mind different verses which continuously take on more and new meaning.
Yesterday, one of my students was sent home with lice. Yes, it was gross and yes, I still find myself getting itchy. This student is just the sweetest little girl. Every morning I give each kid a hug. She often comes back for another one. Sweet little girl. I haven't pieced together everything about her life, but I know enough to tell you, it's not pretty. She is not one of my cleanest students. She often reeks of cigarette smoke, and to top it off, will smell like she's used the bathroom on herself many days.
Yesterday on my drive home, I was thinking about how gross lice is, and honestly regretting the several hugs I gave her. I was (not joyfully) thinking about how whenever she comes back to school I'm going to have to hug her and not act grossed out by possibly getting lice. Really not kind, I know. I would like to blame this on my clean freakishness. However, it doesn't matter how you look at it, my attitude was wrong!
And then God stepped in and brought these 2 verses to mind:
* Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

* Isaiah 64: 6
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags...
Replace sinners/unclean/filthy rags with words like lice-ridden, soiled, reeks and you basically have the thoughts going on in my head. I was sitting there worrying about touching someone who may or may not give me lice. Meanwhile, God in all his love for me (and every single person) looked at us when our sin reeked of worse things than cigarette smoke and dried excrements. He gave us hugs when our spiritual lives were full of all types of lice and varmints. He saw the grossest, smelliest, dirtest, most contaminated things about us and loved. Not begrudgingly. Not because it was 'in his job description'. Because that's who He is. And he went so beyond a 'hug'. Because He does those things, I know His love. Really, I know what love is period because He did those things. I am soo soo soo thankful that God is who He is and that who He is is nothing like me! I am so thankful that God loved me when I was completely, pathetically fallen. And that he loved me so much he died so I didn't have to live in that anymore!
This is why I love God. In the middle of an ordinary day, I can be completely humbled and reminded of who He is. Oh, I have so far to go in loving others the way He first loved me, but I am so thankful for these lessons. They bring me so much closer. I greeted my little girl with love this morning when she returned. And I didn't have to fake it. I know that God's love filled me and enabled me to love her despite it all- because He loved me first...
Part of one of my favorite hymns that ties in with this----
When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because a sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me
Behold him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I am,
The King of glory and of grace!
